Sister Mary Lex Smith, SCL, BA, MPS, MS, is a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, who taught school, and did pastoral work in the area for several years. She began working for SafeHome in Johnson County in fall of 1995 and did the Court Advocacy for Domestic Violence victims in the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office for 3 1/2 years before going to Wyandotte County’s District Attorney’s Office in June of 1999 to be coordinator of the Victim Assistance Program.

She is a member of the Mayor’s Council Against Domestic Violence and has chaired the Judicial Committee of the Council. She is a member of Crime Awareness Coordinating Effort which sponsors local Forums around the issues of crime and hosts the annual Memorial Service in recognition of Crime Victims’ Rights Week. She is on the board for the Urban High Crime Initiative with KCKPD, the Advisory Board for the Victim Services Program at KCKCC, and the Health Committee for the Unified Government Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS.
