Bonnie Swade, MS is one of the co-facilitators for SASS-MoKan (Suicide Awareness Survivor Support/Missouri and Kansas. This is a non-profit group to foster greater understanding and sensitivity dealing with the grief of survivors. SASS works to support and educate the public dispelling the stigma of suicide. She has been in the field of education the past thirty-eight years and is currently a school counselor in the Olathe School District. She serves on the board and is a volunteer for Trauma Support Network. Swade has experienced the personal loss of a son through suicide. She and her husband Mickey have started a support group for other survivors. She is a volunteer for Stop Violence and has served on numerous committees in her school district promoting the well being of students. This past October Swade and her husband received an award from NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill) for their work in suicide awareness.
